“Combining extracts of my own photographs with tangible materials such as used and new wood, layers of acrylic painting or wallpapers, I try to create ‘real’ looking, ‘architectural’ room scenes that on second sight turn out to be rather abstract.”
Born 1965 in Zurich, Switzerland, Andy Nanz holds a Master of Business Administration with professional experience in Marketing and Advertising and is the Founder and CEO of a company specialized in home accessories and lifestyle items. Having his own art studio since 2011, Andy Nanz experiments with overlaying images and combining them with layers of acrylic colors and materials. Playing with tangible foregrounds and vague backgrounds, the works get an alluring three-dimensional quality. The aim is to open new rooms, creating inner an outer depth as a visual but also mental concept.
Neutral palettes and a beautiful juxtaposition of layers create intricate patterns that are minimal in nature yet evoke a surreal, ethereal feeling. Geometry and balance are bold characteristics in Nanz’s unique series of works.
