Clara de Bobes

"Painting brings me joy. I have painted ever since I can remember. But painting is also a form of expression and that requires an interlocutor. I would like my creations to provoke an emotion in the viewer. I paint my models with curiosity, passion, and compassion."

Editta y Fred - Oil on canvas prepared with stucco 89 x 116 cm

Spanish artist, Clara de Bobes received her education in art schools in Palma de Mallorca, Barcelona and Bilbao  and has had teachers including Tinus Castanyer, Maria Luisa Magraner, Pedro Quetglas "Xam" Ramón Navarro, Hector Orruño, Beatriz Aparicio, Richard Pérez Franco. De Bobes has exhibited widely in Spain as well as in Paris, Biarritz, New York, Tokyo and Venice.

Clara de Bobes draws her inspiration from a file in continuous development of personal photographs and images torn from magazines and newspapers. Her paintings are not a literal interpretation of the photographic sources. The size, presentation and color make them a picture of what we see, with an underlying aesthetic of the visible, with an emotion and passion under the skin of everyday reality, that drags us into the realm of dreams.

Bobes strips the image portrayed and gives it a new identity, not less obvious but intense and faithfully representing the subject, showing his soul from the canvas as we look on.

"Painting brings me joy. I have painted ever since I can remember. But painting is also a form of expression and that requires an interlocutor. I would like my creations to provoke an emotion in the viewer. I paint my models with curiosity, passion, and compassion. Through the process of creation, I get to know them intimately, even if they are an invention: a child of my spirit, my imaginary family. I hope that some of this insight reaches the viewer. Of course, what lies beneath the surface of reality is a mystery. Still, in painting the lives of others are also ours."
