"As a composer, I always felt content with the metaphor of placing the sound on a canvas of silence.
Now, as a painter, I am intrigued by the idea that the creative process could reveal itself if I only "listened."
Inspired by the possibilities and challenges within the creative process itself, I employ free and expressive techniques to engage in a daring 'Dance of the Senses' that allows me to balance my personal and artistic sense of form with my instinct and sensibility to texture and color.
My art could not evolve without the stillness and inner harmony I find in nature, in which I can reflect on my inner landscape and find inspiration for my work."
David Hanner has spent most of his life in Germany and Austria as where he studied music and established himself as a pianist and composer whose works have been performed at various international festivals for New Music. He had never studied fine art academically but relies on his lifelong and intimate study of music and his refined senses when composing atmosphere, color, form, texture, and emotional depth.
In addition to his upbringing in Germany, David Hanner's activities as a freelance composer and teacher allowed him to live and work in Austria, Cyprus, and the United States. Since he started to shift his focus to becoming a painter, his works have been exhibited and awarded internationally.
Hanner currently lives in Buffalo, NY, where he continues his journey of artistic discovery as a painter in his home studio.
