"My work is based on a "readable" abstraction in the sense that it allows the viewer to find keys to enter their own imagination. I paint to live the intense moments that creation gives me in search of a harmony that is unique to me between architecture, colors and feelings."

"My work is based on a "readable" abstraction in the sense that it allows the viewer to find keys to enter their own imagination. I paint to live the intense moments that creation gives me in search of a harmony that is unique to me between architecture, colors and feelings."

"I have known artistic exaltation from an early age. Nothing would disturb my momentum, nor the refusal of my parents to start the studies in Fine Arts that I coveted, nor my job as a Professor of Economics and Management, nor the education of my two children. Globetrotter, I will draw from my travels countless creative sensations from the encounters that I meet, landscapes that I admire ... armed with a notepad and colored markers."

French painter, Fanou Montel has had 15 personal exhibitions and numerous participations in French and international art fairs as well as collaborations with galleries.

"I like to confront my painting with the eyes of those who will know how to see something that moves them."

“The abstract paintings of Fanou Montel are perfectly balanced compositions with primarily angular shapes building up intricate surfaces. Her canvases are structured and architectural and give the impression that each shape has systematically found its exact right place. Yet her disciplined way of structuring each new abstract world is not rigid. The eye easily flows from one section to another and the shapes are bound together in a serene yet dynamic rhythm that allows the viewer an open space for gazing, contemplating and imagining.

With a unique sense for color palettes that are harmonious and resonant, Montel's analogous earth tones and subtle gray hues provide an embrace for the stand out shades of sophisticated reds, yellows, blues and greens.

Among the juxtaposed shapes our eye often meets recognizable elements alluding to a tree or a building; elements that accelerate our imagination and make Montel's artworks even more perceptive. As the artist herself describes it, the works are "readable abstractions".

The recognizable motifs provide just enough invitation for the viewer to come in and explore the "landscape"; a welcoming environment to rest your imagination and make each work your own. Often abstract works are too open to interpretation and the viewer can feel lost. But Montel's canvases provide a perfect mix of freedom and structure to keep the viewer on the path of following their intuition to complete each piece according to their personal perception.”
