Visual Artist, Gela Philauri was born in 1961 in Gori, Georgia and studied at the M. S. Tuganov Arts professional School, Tskhinvali (1976-80) and the Tbilisi State Academy of Arts, Graphic Art (1981-7) and is a trained Graphic Artist. A member of the USSR Young Artist’s Union since 1986, Gela Philauri is also part of the Georgian Artist’s Union, the National Creative Unity of Georgian Artists and the IWS (International Watercolor Society) Georgia. From 1981 to 2000, Philauri collaborated with three state publishing houses, ‘Ganatleba’, ‘Nakaduli’ and ‘Merani’ and has since worked with private publishers as artist and illustrator. Received awards include a Gold Medal in the Realism Category at the ART CLASH international show at New York Realism Online Gallery, New York City, USA, 2016. The artist holds certificates and diplomas in Albania, the USA, England, Switzerland, and Russia.
