"My artwork is representational its only aim being to bring pleasure to the viewer. I am inspired by everyday objects, scenes or events and try to capture them in a way that resonates with the viewer."
Helen James was born and raised in Preston, England, emigrated to Canada in 1983, settling in Cornwall, Ontario. As a child, Helen found immense pleasure in painting and drawing. This pastime has been revived during recent years as she has had more time to devote to studying and pursuing visual arts.
Helen's work is representational, and she works chiefly with oils and watercolor, although she has experimented with pastels, pencil, photography and pen and ink. Helen is a self-taught artist who has learned much through studying the work of painters of the past.
Helen's work has been exhibited in TAG Cornwall, January 2015, and in ArtAscent Magazine, August 2015 issue. Cornwall Focus Art Juried Show, June 2017 - First Place, Oil category, "Rue St. Vincent, Montreal" - Honorable Mention, Acrylic category, "Lamoureux Park, Cornwall" ArtAscent Magazine - Still Life Competition, August 2015 - Distinguished Artist, "Chianti and Pears"
