Janet Bell

"I am an intuitive abstract artist who works on canvas and paper using acrylics or a combination of inks and acrylics. In my work, my love of colour, texture and contrasts can be seen. I am interested in the energy of colours and the way they can convey emotion."

Healing Energy - Acrylic on canvas 30 x 30 x 2 cm

Janet Bell was born in Kent and now lives by the sea in East Sussex, UK.

She has a background in textile design, colour therapy and energy healing. Having completed a foundation course in art she went on to do a textile design course at Croydon College of Art and Design. On completion in 1980 she became a member of the S.I.A.D. Originally working as a freelance textile designer for many years she moved on to painting artworks on Thai tissue paper and Japanese papers. She has always loved experimenting with different materials and paints and created both paintings and cards.

She is a self-taught abstract artist and has been painting in acrylics since 1990. Inspired by colour itself especially those found in nature she applies the colours using a variety of techniques and tools, often scraping back layers creating added texture. Her work is expressive and uplifting and she draws on the energy of colour when working.

Her work has been exhibited in galleries and alternative health centres in London and East Sussex.
