"I draw inspiration from the natural world and am particularly intrigued by the vibrant colors of fish, birds, and other animal life. As an artist, I hope to work towards perfecting my ability to replicate the beauty that I find in nature."

Leandro Miguel Cruz paints playful and surreal images in bright, bold colors. Cruz was born in the Dominican Republic and was raised in the Washington Heights neighborhood of New York City. When he first moved to the United States as a child, Cruz underwent major surgery that restricted him to bed for months. It was at this time that he began to draw and discovered his love for art; a passion that has endured throughout his life. Cruz paints in oils and acrylics, working in a style that draws influence from Cubism and his Caribbean roots.

Cruz’s work features strong shapes and colors. Through whimsical and dreamlike scenes, Cruz creates a sense of wonder in his viewer. His pieces also have an undeniable lightheartedness and sense of humor to them. Striking and spirited, Cruz’s paintings depict a world filled with amazement and surprise.
