After graduating (1978) the Rietveld Academy in Amsterdam, Dutch artist Maarten Welbergen continued his education in a 3-year program at the state University of Art, Amsterdam. Already working on commissioned portraits, he created paintings in a wide range of themes; portraits, nudes, still liffe, landscapes and townscapes. At the same period he picked up sculpting and stone carving.
Welbergen exhibits regularly in Holland —Gallery Petit, Gallery van Heijningen, Gallery Morren and museum Mohlmann. He is a member of the artists' society Pulchri and the Prague Society: Sdruzeni maliru, as well as other international organizations including in Russia, Turkey and France. Maarten Welbergen's works are in private and corporate collections including of ING Bank. With several publications including features in articles, books, magazines and newspapers, he received a 2017 Excellence Certificate at Palm Art Award and was nominated in 2018 for the Dutch Portrait Award.
