"The Nordic nature inspires me to paint what I initially see and feel is impressive. My feelings are essentially expressed in the shape, light and color of the paintings. Also, the breathtaking sky above reflecting down to the water, makes me rely on intuition and contemporary expression.”

From Finland, Maija Vanhatapio was born 1946 in Helsinki and now lives in Kajaani, a small town in Eastern Finland. Maija grew up with an artist father and got early art lessons at home, learning to draw as well as to see the nature around.

"Later I graduated in graphic arts for advertising business and have been an art director in many ad-agencies and during the last years of my working history, I had my own advertising agency. Some years ago I carried out open university studies of fine art in the University of Lapland at Rovaniemi. I also attended several Art courses and workshops."

Maija has exhibited solo and in group shows in Finland and abroad and is a member of Oulu Artist Association as well as four other art societies.
