Marleen Stegeman was born in 1960 in a Dutch village near the German border. A pleasant childhood, she was often found in the woods with her sketchpad. Marleen was different from other children, for example at 15 years old, her father asked her what of school she wanted to attend and what would she like to become. She replied that she already is. Marleen left home at age 17, sure that with Social studies she could contribute to bettering the world. She enjoyed the theme but she didn't feel like she was changing anything. She shortly realized that poetry, painting, sculpture and music were more important and decided to dedicate her life to art. Her parent's did not understand her. She is now living with her partner, a sculptor who also helps her with business which is not her favorite way to spend time.
A poem by Marleen Stegeman
Live my life
With coloured wings
Reach for the stars
Oh what beauty it brings
Live life to the fullest
So no opportunity missed
Living my life
With coloured wings
