Marianne Charlotte Mylonas-Svikovsky

"I always aim at the essence of what surges from my innerself, rendering the emotions aroused and translating them into color, composition and the gestures implicated in the means used. Art translates and confers meaning to life in ever renewed forms as emotions are universally the same."

Inferno ... Sexual Harassment, An Archaïsme Ever Present, 2018 - Oil and acrylic on canvas 80 x 60 cm

"Painting has been a personal refuge for me since I was 12, throughout my parents' eventful life all over the world, obliging me to quick adaption for school and languages mentalities and environment. I thus developed an acute eye, like a photographer, registering images in my mind, also increasing my sensitivity that later was brought to a pinnacle by tragedies and traumas to my children that I overcame. Thanks to Art helping a resiliency that conferred new meaning to my life, a means to express and canalize overflowing emotions, that will ever be universal, in the end attaining peace and joy again. The major international exhibitions I have been invited to have brought me in contact with other artists and trends but my references are the great masters mainly of the Italian Renaissance which I studied in Rome, and the masters of Italy, France inspiring me on my very personal path. I go to the essence of things that surge from my innerself, instinctively, translating them in an alla prima way or after long maturation, working on them until they convey the original emotion hidden in my soul that needs to be expressed. Emotions, vibrations, world-impacting events, vibrations through lines and colors, atmospheres and poetic images, story-telling abstracts are my main themes determining the colors, composition, means and gestures used. The soul speaks, the inner mind expresses spontaneously on canvas what surges and ideally speaks to the spectator who gives life to my artwork through his words and own feelings. I have the honor of being invited to many international exhibitions, art books and monthly art magazines and feel the responsibility of keeping the faculty of emotional authenticity and the capacity to translate them through my personal sensitivity. Three free quotations: Pierre Soulage: "Let the material go freely." Leonardo da Vinci: "If the hand is not guided by the soul it is not art."  Henri Miller: "Go to the essence always the essence, and Paintings leads back to joy and life."
