Ulla Karttunen is a Finnish multidisciplinary artist and digital painter known for ecstatic imagery rendered in glowing pastel shades and darker tones of mystic intensity. She has exhibited internationally in cities such as New York, Los Angeles, Miami, London, Rome, and Paris, earning numerous awards. While focused primarily on digital images and installations, her practice also includes conceptual projects, scent works, performances, and essays.
Her work combines social criticism and symbolic expression, addressing themes of gender, femininity, power, market ethics, and the fragility of existence. Often described as contemporary esoteric icons, her works approach alchemical expression without attachment to religious frameworks. Karttunen has also worked as a critic, graphic designer, and researcher, authoring approximately 200 articles and lecturing internationally on philosophy and sociology of art.
