Menke Bol

"I prefer to paint (in oil) stuff like peeling walls, rotten doors and rusty pipes. I am not so much interested in picturesque images but rather in the progressive deterioration by the ravages of time. My drawings are mainly portraits in charcoal. I work from observation or from a self-made photo."

"After a long-lasting career as a policy advisor at the Ministry of Justice in The Hague, I went to Art School in 2013. Before that, I already liked to paint and draw but always as an amateur. I missed a decent and classic education in art. So after my retirement, I started daytime training at the Wackers Art Academy in Amsterdam. Furthermore, I followed and still follow courses and masterclasses. I also keep practicing figure drawing."
