Paul Hartel

"I think of my work as celebrating the spirit of everyone’s inner child. I strive to create a visual immediacy with bright and dark shades and lines that often combat each other keeping the viewer’s eye in perpetual motion, transcending the piece."

Girl with Flowers - Acrylic, oil, charcoal, oil pastels on canvas 30 x 40 in.

American Artist, Paul Hartel lives in Sligo, Ireland. He holds an MA from  Fairleigh Dickinson University and BA from Ithaca College as well as a MoMA NYC Certificate.

"I paint and draw with oils, acrylics, oil pastels, and charcoal, mostly in abstract and neo-expressionist styles, with influences that include DeKooning, Pollock, Twombly, Clemente, Miro, Frankenthaler, Mitchel, and Wool. I believe my work yields a veracity that may otherwise be mitigated with hesitation. I subscribe to a rawness and sense of urgency that I feel parallels the excitement of life and all its accompanying intellectual, emotional and existential vicissitudes."

Whisper - Oil, acrylic, charcoal on canvas 16 x 12 in.
All of Those Things - Oil on canvas 12 x 10 in.
Selectra - Acrylic, oil, oil pastels, charcoal on canvas 24 x 18 in.
