“I paint what I see. Things connect in the head and have to come out on the canvas. Art movements, styles and current tastes are basically irrelevant to me! For me painting is passion, life experience and ability, nothing more and nothing less.”
German artist, Eberhard Marx was born in 1951 in Dresden where he grew up. From 1968 to 1970, Marx worked as a ship electrician at VEB Warnowwerft Warnemünde. From 1970 to 1973 he did military service at the Volksmarine, 6th flotilla. Marx began training as a painter in 1979 in a cycle of studies that lasted until 1983 with Mentor Karlheinz Kuhn, Rostock. In 1981-3 he studied in Wismar with Alfred Heth and from 1983 to 1986 he did studies at the College of Applied Arts, Heiligendamm with Prof. Heinz Wodzicka and Prof. Fritz Eisel. He went on to study at the University of Art and Design Halle Burg Giebichenstein until 1993. Since 2005, the artist has resided in Sinzig am Rhein.
