Vanja Basic

"Drawing is my favorite way to feel free. Each sheet of paper is a safe place that doesn’t require any explanation or adaptation from me. It takes me as I am and allows me to be in touch with my feelings."

"I have drawn literally since I knew how to hold a pencil in my hand. As an only child, drawing has always been my way of escaping and expressing myself. From the age of 8 to 20, I took oil painting and pencil classes to improve my skills. Technique is really important to me; I have always admired M. C. Escher for his.

Several years later, during my global design studies, I found both my style and my preferred mediums, by discovering graphic design. I fell in love with this discipline and it has greatly influenced the way I apprehend my drawing sheet and my lines. Today, in my art, I love combining ink on paper with digital coloring. Pop art inspires me a lot in my use of colors. I adore impressionism as well; this movement has definitely influenced the way I draw, with urgency. That’s what I love most about art, the raw capture of an emotion."
