Will Schmahl

"I believe in using art to help tell a story, process our emotions, provide therapy to one's soul, and to reflect what one loves at that moment. The thing that fascinates me most about art is the way our magical brains can pull forward a flood of memories and emotions from our past into a story."

Baby Come Back - Acrylic, neon light on wood panel 36 x 48 in.

Inspiration

"The artwork I make is a lot like me—equal parts careful planning and spontaneous exploration and messiness."

Techniques

"My style I think I haven’t yet felt to be defined. It is riotously colorful and textured, often including drips and raw edges paradoxically layered with carefully rendered subjects. A spirit of experimentation defines my use of materials, sometimes resulting in the collision of meaningful substances into parts of my artwork. Incorporating unconventional materials into my work, most often in my commission work, it’s all about making art with a layered story.”

Retro Weathered Storm - Acrylic on canvas with wood frame 20 x 20 in.
Lost Love - Acrylic, ink resin 24 x 48 in.
Perfect Shot: The Divorce - Acrylic 40 x 30 in.
Coral Reef - Resin inks 14 x 14 in.
